as the waters rise
A downloadable game
In this narrative game, made for the 48-word RPG Jam, players work together to tell the story of a community as it faces ever more dramatic environmental disruption.
It requires a single six-sided dice (d6) and a blue pen or colouring pencil. The game does not require a GM and can also be played solo as a journaling game.
As the Waters Rise was written in the midst of yet another ‘once in a generation’ storm in Aotearoa New Zealand in January 2026.
The artwork is a section of the monumental woodcut ‘The Submersion of Pharaoh’s Army in the Red Sea’ by Titian. This public domain image was sourced via the wonderful archive at The Art Institute of Chicago.
Thank you to Eva for help with playtesting and for the really helpful feedback.

This is just fantastic.
The rising waters mapped onto the d6 is such a neat system, and the design work is gorgeous!
Can't wait to give this a go :)
